Co-opted governor vacancy - Sandy Lane Primary School

Make a difference to children’s lives

Logo - Sandy Lane Primary School

A larger than average school, Sandy Lane offers the opportunity for governors to have a positive impact on a large number of children’s futures, particularly at this time when the school is innovating and improving under the leadership of the Head Teacher.

About us

Sandy Lane Primary School has vacancies for 2 new co-opted governors from the surrounding community.

Our governing body is made up of:

  • the Headteacher
  • a local authority governor
  • elected parent governors
  • elected staff governors
  • co-opted governors from the community

The role

Governors are volunteers who contribute a much-valued range of professional skills and experience to a school’s performance and continuous improvement. They do this by setting strategic direction, making sure of accountability and evaluating school performance – all in partnership with the Headteacher, who they appoint.

Governors don’t need to be parents and needn’t have specialist knowledge of education policy or practice. While Sandy Lane values a breadth of skills in its governance, governors with finance skills are particularly welcome to apply, as are those from ethnic minorities.

You will need to:

  • attend monthly meetings (governors are considering varying start times to offer flexibility)
  • attend an induction day to outline the role and responsibilities
  • attend occasional and pre-arranged visits to the school during the school day
  • have a DBS check

You will be provided with training. This is delivered by Bracknell Forest Council or through the National Governance Association. This includes online learning for other sectors and types of work. This training makes school governance one of the best forms of personal and professional development.

While governors volunteer their time and expertise, out of pocket expenses are covered (such as babysitting to attend evening meetings).

Sandy Lane is a friendly, secure and motivating school with an equally welcoming and energetic governing body. We’d love to have you join us!
