Parent and child foster carers support and help parents (usually mothers) who are placed with them in how to care for their baby.
The aim of these placements is to try and keep families together by giving the parent an opportunity to learn how to safely look after their child.
The hope is that following a period living in a fostering household, both parent and child will be able to move to living independently together.
To be a parent and child foster carer, you’ll need:
- a good size spare bedroom
- time and availability - usually one person must be available during the day to support and monitor the parent
- good interpersonal skills
- the ability to work with parents and professionals
- previous practical parenting experience and the ability to recognise and report any risk to the welfare of the child
- to be patient and tolerant with a sense of humour
In return, we offer extensive support, training and competitive allowances.
We assess all parent and child foster carers in the same way as our other foster carers.
