Housing benefit award accuracy reviews

We are reviewing customers’ housing benefit and council tax support claims as part of the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) Housing benefit award accuracy initiative.

This is a new initiative to make sure that:

  • benefit awards are correct
  • those who are entitled get the right amount

I have been contacted to review my housing benefit claim

Starting from March 2022, the DWP has issued a list of claims that require a full case review.

If you have been contacted about this and directed to this page of our website, you need to use the link below and fill in the review form with your details.

Filling in the form

You will be asked to provide details of your current circumstances such as your household’s income, any savings and investments you hold and about anyone who currently lives with you.

Once you have filled in the form:

It is important that you complete this form if you have been contacted by us asking you to do this.

If you have any difficulties filling in the form or any questions about the review, you can email benefits@bracknell-forest.gov.uk

Providing evidence

If you need to provide evidence as part of the review you can do this by uploading the evidence on our Citizen Access Benefits portal.

Once on the portal, you will need to select ‘go to Citizen Access Benefits’ and then select ‘Upload my Evidence’.  Alternatively you can send it by email to benefits@bracknell-forest.gov.uk

If you are emailing us information, put the following in the subject line:

  • your housing benefit claim reference
  • add the words Housing Benefit Review

To avoid delays, make sure that:

  • any photographs of any information or evidence you send are clear
  • include your name and address in the main body of the email

Responding to us

The review of your claim must be completed so it is important that you respond to any letters, emails or telephone calls that you receive from us. If there are exceptional reasons which will cause a delay let us know immediately.

If you do not respond, your claim may be cancelled. You will then need to claim Universal Credit for help in paying your rent if you are working age and do not live in supported housing. You would still be able to reapply for Council Tax Support from us.
