Continuing professional development activity has focused on specialist youth justice-specific content as identified in 2023’s training needs analysis.
An additional prevention practitioner has been trained to facilitate the ‘Who’s in Charge’ child to parent violence prevention programme which has increased the reach of the programme.
Team members and volunteers have undertaken speech and language training and team members have attended GGRRAAACCEEESSS Training. The team have also undertaken refresher training on safeguarding, data protection, cyber security and neurodiversity.
Training planned for 2024 to 2027 includes:
- Stay True to You (knife crime prevention) training
- the AIM Assessment for Under 12’s
- Collaborating with Girls training
Team training on the Prevention and Diversion Assessment Tool will take place in August in time for the roll out in September 2024.
The remainder of training identified by staff in the 2023 training needs analysis will be carried over. Individual training needs are identified through the supervision and appraisal process.
Weekly bite-sized training continues to be offered to all children’s social care staff including those in the Youth Justice Team. The Youth Justice Team has also contributed to this learning, for example, understanding out of court disposals. The Youth Justice Team has also benefitted from different topics delivered by social care staff and specialist workers including therapeutic life story work.
The Youth Justice Team have had access to regular monthly supervision and have been offered clinical supervision with the Health and Justice Psychologist to support their resilience with particularly challenging and complex casework. Bracknell Forest Council also provide comprehensive wellbeing services to its staff.
