There are different options you can choose when getting careers advice.

Searching online

The quickest way to get careers advice is to search online for tips and guidance. You'll find plenty of useful links to sites with useful advice about how to decide what career you'd like.

Support from a careers adviser

For more personalised advice you can book an appointment with a careers adviser. You can get in touch with a careers adviser through:

  • Elevate
  • your school or college
  • the National Careers Service

Careers adviser at Elevate

We can help you get some career advice.

We support young people who are Not in Education Employment or Training (NEET) who:

  • are aged 16 to 18
  • are care leavers - up to the age of 25
  • have an education health and care (EHC) plan - up to the age of 25

To get an appointment, make a referral to us. You can do this yourself or someone can do it for you.

Careers adviser at school or college

You should have a careers adviser at your school or college that you can book an appointment with. Ask your tutor or check your school or college’s website.

If they do not have a careers adviser, you can ask teachers for other options that might be available.

Careers adviser at the National Careers Service

The National Careers Service is a government run careers advice service to help young people figure out what they’d like to do. The website has lots of advice about careers, including job profiles and searching for a course.

There are lots of ways to ask them for careers advice, including online chat, email and phone.

You might like to make a list of questions to ask or thing you’d like to find out.

At your appointment, make sure you take:

  • your CV
  • a pen and paper to make notes
