Kinship care

Two children smiling at each other.

In October 2024, the Department for Education issued updated statutory guidance on kinship care under Section 7 of the Local Authority Social Services Act 1970.

This replaces the 2010 Family and Friends Care guidance and sets out expectations for local authorities in supporting kinship carers and children in kinship arrangements.

Bracknell Forest Council’s local offer to kinship carers is set out in the attached policy. This specifies the support and financial assistance available to those caring for children under various legal arrangements, including:

  • fostering
  • Child Arrangements Orders (CAOs)
  • private fostering
  • informal kinship arrangements

Kinship local offer policy

The aim of this policy is to make sure that kinship carers and the children they care for receive the necessary resources, guidance, and financial support. This helps to provide a stable, nurturing environment for the children in their care.
