Special guardianship

Special guardianship is one way of providing a long term stable home to a child.

Special guardians have full parental responsibility and take on legal powers until the child’s 18th birthday. Unlike adoption, the child still has a legal link to their birth parents.

If the child in question has lived in Bracknell Forest for 3 years or more, please contact us. One of our social workers will visit and discuss support. If they have been living in another local authority more than 3 years, please contact that local authority.
