Bracknell Forest Sustainability Pledge

Join the Bracknell Forest Sustainability Pledge

Bracknell Forest Council is working with Ethical Reading to help local businesses and organisations improve their sustainability and make a positive impact in the community.

We are inviting organisations of all sizes to join our new Sustainability Pledge initiative and commit to practical actions that support social and environmental sustainability.

Organisations can play an important role in creating positive change in the ways they:

  • service residents
  • support employees
  • work with suppliers
  • deliver services

By taking part, your organisation can:

  • demonstrate its commitment to sustainability
  • strengthen its reputation within the community
  • access practical guidance and resources
  • connect with other organisations working towards similar goals
  • share and celebrate its achievements

Organisations that successfully complete their pledge will get a certificate recognising their achievements. Their success will also be promoted through the scheme.

Pilot phase

Organisations joining now will take part in the pilot phase of the initiative.

As a pilot participant, you will have the opportunity to help shape the scheme, making sure it is practical, relevant and beneficial for businesses, organisations and communities across Bracknell Forest.

About the pledges

Pledges can focus on a range of sustainability priorities, including:

  • responsible purchasing
  • sustainable travel for staff
  • reducing energy use
  • cutting waste
  • improving staff wellbeing
  • supporting local communities

Participants will receive support and guidance to help them achieve their goals and measure their progress.

Recognition for your achievements

The Sustainability Pledge provides an opportunity to showcase the positive difference your organisation is making locally.

Organisations that achieve a pledge certificate will also be automatically considered for the new Sustainability Award category at the Pride of Bracknell Awards.

Eligibility

The scheme is open to organisations operating in Bracknell Forest, including:

  • businesses
  • employers
  • service providers
  • community and voluntary organisations
  • local institutions

Sustainability Champions

Bracknell Forest Council has partnered with Ethical Reading to support local organisations that want to take action on sustainability.

The Sustainability Champions network brings people together to share ideas, resources and practical solutions. Members can learn from others, exchange good practice and connect with organisations across Berkshire.

Employees and business owners from more than 100 organisations based in Berkshire have joined the network so far. They include a huge range of roles in sectors from hospitality to insurance.

Following its success in Reading the initiative is being brought to Bracknell Forest. All organisations are invited to take part - you do not need to work in a sustainability role to get involved.

If you are interested in making a positive difference, you are welcome to join.
