Co-opted governor vacancy for The Pines School

Make a difference to children’s lives in your area

Would you like to help make a positive contribution to children's education?

Then the governing board of The Pines School would love to hear from you.

About us

Our governing body is made up of 11 governors:

  • 2 elected parent governors
  • 1 local authority governor
  • 1 elected staff governor
  • the headteacher
  • 6 co-opted governors

We also have a professional clerk.

All of our governors have their own careers and responsibilities but they dedicate time to the school when they are able. We all want to make a positive contribution to the school and the education of all its children.

A governor’s term of office is 4 years.

The governing board’s overriding responsibility is to work in partnership with the Headteacher to promote continuous improvement in the performance of the school.

We play an important part in raising school standards through our key roles of:

  • making sure we have clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction for the school
  • holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils
  • overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent

The role

We understand that all our governors have other commitments in their lives.

You will need to:

  • attend at least 2 meetings per term (on Thursday evenings at 6pm)
  • attend 1 training session per year
  • visit the school during the working day at least once during an academic year

Our governors all agree that seeing how the school runs and the impact of their decisions on the school community is the most enjoyable part of being a governor.

You will be provided with training. This is delivered by Bracknell Forest Council or through the National Governance Association. This includes online learning for other sectors and types of work. This training makes school governance one of the best forms of personal and professional development.

There is also a full induction programme for new governors.

If you are interested in this position, please email an outline of the skills and qualities you feel you could bring to the role.
