How we support equality, diversity and inclusion

We are committed to promoting equality. We celebrate diversity and support inclusion in everything we do. We want to build a borough where everyone feels respected and valued. Bracknell Forest should be a place where all can thrive, no matter their background, identity or circumstances.

Our approach

We consider equality and diversity in everything we do, from service delivery to policy-making. Our work is guided by fairness, dignity and respect and we always look to remove barriers that prevent people from accessing opportunities or support.

We follow the Public Sector Equality Duty. We think about how our choices and services impact people with protected characteristics under the Equality Act 2010.

What we do

We promote equality of opportunity by identifying and addressing inequalities in areas such as education, housing, health and employment.

We support good relations between different communities, encouraging understanding and mutual respect.

We aim to remove discrimination. We do this through inclusive policies, staff training and active engagement with residents and partners.

Monitoring and accountability

We regularly publish equality monitoring reports to assess how well we’re meeting our commitments. These reports focus on social care, leisure services, and workforce diversity. They help us identify gaps and improve outcomes.

Our All of Us Equality Scheme 2025 to 2029 sets out our strategic goals and actions for a more inclusive borough. It was developed in collaboration with staff, residents and community partners.

Working in partnership

We work closely with with local organisations, community groups and national bodies. This includes the work we do with the armed forces community and our stance against modern slavery.

Together, we support:

  • vulnerable groups
  • promote accessibility
  • uphold human rights
