This page explains how we communicate with families. It helps you understand:
- what to expect from us
- how to contact us
It supports consistent and clear communication from the start.
When we first start working with you we will talk about how we can best communicate with each other.
Our commitment
Every child is at the heart of our work. We improve outcomes by working with:
- children
- young people
- families
- partner agencies
Clear and respectful communication helps us do this well.
How we communicate best
Our work is relationship-based. Wherever possible, we communicate face-to-face
or via the phone.
You will see your social worker on a regular basis during visits and meetings. They will make sure that there is time for you to:
- discuss what is important to you
- raise things with them
This allows time for discussion, questions and support.
Email communication
Email is not our main way of communicating with families.
Social workers spend much of their time working out in your community. This means they may not be able to regularly check or quickly respond to emails.
Emails will be read and responded to where possible, but replies may take a little time.
When something is urgent
Please do not rely on email for urgent matters.
You can contact your social worker by telephone. You can ask to speak with the duty worker if your social worker is unavailable.
Outside office hours, you can contact the Emergency Duty Service on 01344 351999.
Your social worker will provide you with all relevant contact numbers.
Working together
How we communicate with each other really matter.
Good communication supports better outcomes for your children and young people.
If you are unsure about anything, please speak directly with your social worker.
