You must register before 42 days or 6 weeks.

You should register the birth in the area the baby was born.
What you will be asked

When was the baby was born?
Where was the baby was born?
The sex of the baby.
The baby’s full names and surname.
They will also ask you questions about you and your partner, like what your names are and what you do
Who can register a birth?

If you are married or in a civil partnership, either parent can register the birth.
If you are not married, then the mother needs to register the birth.

When you register the birth, you can buy a birth certificate.
A birth certificate costs £11.
