Tell us what you think about our new budget

Three burlap sacks filled with British pound sterling banknotes.

Each year the council must decide how to spend its money.

This is called the budget.

We want to know what you think about our plans.

The council's money

Stacks of £20 and £5 British banknotes with a downward arrow.

The council does not have enough money to pay for everything.

This is because:

  • more people need support
  • things cost more
  • the council gets less money from the government

Red-handled scissors cutting through a stack of British banknotes.

We might need to:

  • stop doing some things
  • spend less money
  • change how we do some things
  • use savings

How we plan to save money

Red double-decker bus on a road with visible driver and large windows.

To save money we might stop some bus services that are not used very much.

Three glass bottles in brown, clear, and green with a recycling symbol overlaid.

To save money we might wait until later to start glass recycling collections.

Digital rendering of Earth with an orange ring around it.

To save money we might find other ways to pay for climate projects.

To save money we might work with the NHS to change how some care is paid for.

How we plan to spend money

We still have some money to spend.

We want to spend money on making play areas better.

Back view of a white car with a yellow license plate on a straight road.

We want to spend money on fixing roads and pavements.

A modern green leisure centre building with a visible indoor swimming pool.

We want to spend money on Bracknell Leisure Centre and Coral Reef Waterworld.

People engaging in activities at a day centre, including playing pool and interacting with each other.

We want to spend money on Bracknell Day Services.

This will mean more space and support for adults with learning disabilities.

How the council gets its money

The council gets money from:

  • the government
  • Council Tax
  • businesses
  • developers
  • borrowing

Savings

Pink piggy bank labeled 'Savings' with a five-pound note and a fifty pence coin.

The council has savings for emergencies.

Some of this money is already used to support children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

We might need to use more of our savings.
