About the governors
Governors are volunteers who are committed to supporting the education and wellbeing of all pupils. Working closely with the headteacher, the governing body helps shape the school's future and high standards for every child.
Our governing body is made up of 13 governors:
- 2 elected parent governors
- 2 appointed by the church
- one local authority governor
- one elected staff governor
- one headteacher staff governor
- 2 co-opted governors
We also have a professional clerk to the governors.
Types of governor
There are several types of school governor:
- parent governors are elected when a vacancy arises by a ballot of eligible parents
- local authority governors are nominated by the local authority and appointed by the governing body
- co-opted governors are appointed by the governing body to make sure the body has a range of skills and expertise amongst members
- staff governors (elected and co-opted) are drawn from both teaching and non-teaching staff groups and are elected by the staff
The role
Governors work collectively to:
- setting strategic direction
- making sure we are accountable
- monitoring and evaluating school performance
The full governing body meets twice each term, with additional committee meetings throughout the year. The expected commitment is approximately 10 to 15 hours per term, including meetings, reading and occasional school visits.
We welcome applications from individuals who are passionate about education and community service. Co-opted governors are appointed to bring a range of skills, experience and perspectives to the governing body.
No previous governor experience is required. We encourage all governors to access the excellent training and support available to help them succeed in the role. Governor appointments are for a 4-year term.
