About us
Our governing body is made up of 11 governors:
- 2 elected parent governors
- 1 local authority governor
- 1 elected staff governor
- the Headteacher
- 6 co-opted governors
We also have a professional clerk.
All of our governors have their own careers and responsibilities but they dedicate time to the school when they are able. We all want to make a positive contribution to the school and the education of all its children.
A governor’s term of office is 4 years.
The governing board’s overriding responsibility is to work in partnership with the Headteacher to promote continuous improvement in the performance of the school.
We play an important part in raising school standards through our 3 key roles of setting strategic direction, making sure of accountability and monitoring and evaluating school performance.
Our activities include:
- meeting twice a term and making collective decisions
- an expectation to sit on a committee
- electing a Chair and Vice Chair annually
- monitoring specific areas of the school such as maths
The role
We are keen to hear from self-motivated and determined people who are interested in becoming a governor, particularly those with experience in HR, Finance or IT.
However, we feel that enthusiasm and a willingness to learn is of primary importance. We're also looking for someone with the confidence to challenge and actively contribute during discussions. You will also need an ability to work closely and collaboratively with others.
You will be provided with training. This is delivered by Bracknell Forest Council or through the National Governance Association. This includes online learning for other sectors and types of work. This training makes school governance one of the best forms of personal and professional development.
There is also a full induction programme for new governors.
