ESOL for beginners: entry 2 - Reading

This course aims to introduce foundational level English skills in listening, speaking, writing and reading.

It will help students build their confidence and learn more about life in the UK.

English for Beginners is a course for literate learners who would like to develop their basic listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills.

With the support of tutors, learners can explore English culture and build their communication skills for everyday life in the UK.

Course materials are based on the Adult ESOL Core Curriculum programme. Learners will develop their reading, writing, listening and speaking skills through topic led sessions including:

  • introducing and describing myself and others (family and friends)
  • talking about my hobbies, interests, skills, personal attributes and daily routines
  • talking about my home, local places, weather and seasons
  • ‘out and about’ - English for transport, shopping, holidays and social events
  • ‘my future' - my health and wellbeing, learning for life, jobs and the workplace
  • asking and answering questions in English
