Working in schools: April 2026

This course will help your path towards employment in a school.

It will give you insights into the broader influence you will have in the school community. You will understand the impact you can make on teachers, families, and children, all while playing a crucial role in enhancing the overall educational journey of students.

This course aims to develop a professional mindset for working in a primary school. It will highlight the vital, versatile role of a teaching assistant in supporting educators and students.

There will be online tasks. They aim to prepare you to:

  • apply for a job in primary schools
  • work within the National Curriculum 
  • develop your key skills

Entry requirements

This course is suitable for anyone who is interested in working as a teaching assistant in a primary school.

Teaching method

Learning will include:

  • formal instruction
  • group work
  • paired work
  • online tasks

How is your progress checked

Progress will be measured against the learning objectives set for each session and based on the participation of each learner.

Assessment

There will be a self-evaluation at the end of the session.

Next steps

After successful completion of this course you can progress onto various work skills courses.
