Advanced IT skills for work: April 2026

Advanced IT for Work is a course to develop computer skills in a practical context, building on prior knowledge.

This course looks at a variety of skills, ranging from using Microsoft Office effectively to accessing the internet while staying safe and secure.

During this course you will:

  • use a variety of applications including Microsoft Office, Outlook and Teams
  • find and select relevant, update to date and reliable information
  • develop, present and communicate information effectively

To enrol on this course you need to attend our job club.

Entry requirements

Assessment of previous IT skills to be done with tutor to assess suitability for this level.

Material required for the course

Bring a pen and paper for making notes.

Teaching method

Teaching will take place through:

  • observing tutor demonstrations 
  • completing a series of exercises under guidance of the tutor
  • individual, paired and group activities
  • practical and theoretical tasks

How is your progress checked

Ongoing assessment of work completed during the sessions by tutor.

Assessment

There will be a self-evaluation at the end of the session.
