ESOL for beginners: entry 2 - Writing

Develop your English language skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. This practical course will help you communicate effectively in everyday situations, enhancing your confidence and proficiency in English. Perfect for non-native speakers looking to improve their language skills.

  • Reading: Understanding simple texts, identifying main points and purposes.
  • Speaking and Listening: Engaging in conversations, following spoken texts, and participating in discussions.
  • Writing: Producing simple texts, constructing sentences, using adjectives and punctuation correctly, spelling words accurately, and completing forms.

Entry requirements

  • Basic understanding of English (entry level 1)
  • Commitment to attend all classes and complete assignments

Material required for the course

  • Audio recordings for listening practice
  • Dictionaries and grammar reference books
  • Writing materials (notebooks, pens).

  • Group discussions and pair work
  • Role-playing exercises and real-life simulations
  • Listening activities using audio recordings
  • Writing practice through various formats
  • Grammar and punctuation exercises

How is your progress checked

  • Reading: Written tests and practical tasks
  • Speaking and Listening: Oral tests and listening comprehension tasks
  • Writing: Written assignments, form-filling tasks, and grammar and spelling tests 
  • Evaluation of learner performance using Pearson-devised tests and mark schemes.
  • Regular feedback sessions to review progress and identify areas for improvement.

Extra study required at home

  • Learners are encouraged to practice reading, writing, speaking, and listening outside of class to reinforce skills learned.
  • Complete grammar and vocabulary exercises to reinforce learning.

Next steps

Upon completion of this course, learners can progress to Entry Level 3 ESOL Skills for Life or other higher-level English language courses to continue improving their skills.
