School travel advice

Walking

Most schools in the borough have excellent walking links with formal crossing points on key routes.

You can also benefit by registering with the Eco Rewards scheme if you are walking to and from school.

Cycling

In Bracknell Forest we are lucky to have a network of safe, traffic free cycling routes that connect much of the borough. Plan your journey to school using our cycle route map.

‘Bikeability’ cycle training is offered to primary school children and is arranged by each school.

Buses

Visit our page about buses to see if public transport could be a solution for you. Most operators offer child and student fares.

Rail

If you are 16 to 17 years old, for just £30, you can get up to 50% off rail fares with a 16 to 17 saver railcard.

What we are doing to improve routes to school

Over the last few years we have built a number of crossings on school routes, including:

  • King’s Academy Binfield:
    • toucan crossing on Forest Road
    • toucan crossing on Temple Way
    • pelican crossing on Terrace Road South
  • Owlsmoor Primary School:
    • zebra crossing on Cambridge Road
  • Edgbarrow School:
    • zebra crossing on Sandhurst Road
  • Brakenhale School:
    • zebra crossing on Rectory Lane

This year (2024 to 2025) improvements will include a:

  • cycleway from Buckler's Forest to King's Academy Easthampstead Park
  • signalised crossing on Broad Lane on the route to Ranelagh School
