If you are a care leaver in custody, you can access the following additional support.
Monthly allowance
We will send you £30 per month. This increases to £40 per month if you are in education, employment or training while in custody.
Personal adviser (PA)
Your PA will:
- continue to visit you, keep in touch and update your pathway plan
- access advice from the Makesafe team that may help you
- liaise with your probation officer
Clothing
If you need some clothing to get you through your time in custody, we may be able to help with this. Please ask your PA.
When you leave custody
When you leave custody, your PA will arrange to pick you up - if you need or want them to.
You will be given a £30 food voucher. We will pay you the equivalent of the universal credit personal allowance every week, for up to 5 weeks, until your benefits start. Your PA will also help you to apply for the correct benefits if you have not done this.
Alongside your probation officer, we can help you to look for employment, education and training opportunities. We can also support you to look for housing so that you can move on from your approved premises.
We can help you to access support for your physical and mental health and wellbeing.
