Safe and Secure Grant

If your property needs repairs to enable adaptations to begin, the Safe and Secure Grant can help you cover the cost.

Although not an exhaustive list, the type of works the grant could cover include:

  • water supply, drainage and heating issues
  • electrical and gas safety works
  • repairs or modifications to stairs, floors and steps
  • safety and security repairs

The maximum grant award is £5,000.

Eligibility

You must be eligible for a mandatory Disabled Facilities Grant and you must own your home.

To be eligible for the grant, applicants must be in receipt of one of the following benefits:

  • Income Support
  • Jobseekers Allowance (all)
  • Employment and Support Allowance (all)
  • Pension Credit (Guarantee Credit)
  • Universal Credit
  • Bracknell Forest Council Tax Support (not single person reduction)

Conditions

For owner-occupiers, the grant will be registered, in full, as a local land charge against your property. The grant will be recovered on the sale or transfer of your property, subject to rules regarding exempt sales.

This is separate to the £10,000 which is recoverable as a condition of mandatory Disabled Facilities Grant.

The applicant must be a permanent resident of Bracknell Forest and the property must be their permanent address.

There are other conditions attached to this grant which may restrict the future use and ownership of the property. These can be viewed in the Housing Assistance Policy 2021 to 2026.

A maximum of one application for this grant will be considered in any 5 year period.
