Addiction is common.  Wherever you are and whatever your problem is, there are people who can help you.

New Hope provides a friendly, free and confidential service to anybody who is looking for help with drugs and alcohol addictions.

Relapse Prevention Group

This programme is for anyone at the maintenance or abstinence stage in their recovery. At this stage you are attending 1 to 1 recovery support sessions and wanting to make progress. You are at the stage of potentially progressing to rehab.

The programme consists of 10 group sessions. Below are some of the themes we cover.

Motivation

This session covers:

  • what motivation is
  • what hinders our motivation
  • components of motivation
  • SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time Bound) goals

Change

This session covers:

  • the spiral of change
  • obstacles in your recovery
  • breaking negative thought patterns
  • preparing for change
  • staying motivated
  • what prevents us from changing
  • the cycle of change and stages of relapse

Feelings and belief

This session covers:

  • understanding emotions and beliefs
  • self-belief
  • negative core belief

Assertiveness

This session covers:

  • understanding assertiveness
  • why it can be difficult to be assertive
  • understanding self-sabotage
  • listening

Anger

This session covers:

  • understanding anger
  • angry behaviour
  • anger and substances
  • anger management

Self-esteem

This session covers:

  • understanding self-esteem
  • the Johari Window
  • improving self-esteem

Health and wellbeing

This session covers:

  • the effects of stress and anxiety
  • myth busting and different perspectives
  • understanding anxiety
  • addition and mental health
  • long term effects of substance abuse

Triggers and urges

This session covers:

  • understanding triggers and cravings
  • your personal triggers
  • thought managing
  • techniques for dealing with difficult situations

Other groups

Alcohol self-help group

This weekly group provides harm reduction and brief interventions around alcohol consumption.

We discuss the harm of alcohol, barriers and tips to quit drinking and coping strategies.

This group is for individuals starting their alcohol recovery journey who want to stop or manage their drinking.

Alcohol group

This group takes place over 3 sessions. It aims to raise awareness of the dangers of excessive alcohol consumption.

You will learn what alcohol does to your body and how it effects your emotional and mental wellbeing.

This group is for anyone at the preparation or maintenance stage in their recovery. At this stage you are attending 1 to 1 recovery support sessions and want to make progress in your recovery.

Cannabis group

This group takes place over 4 structured sessions. They will give you the skills and techniques to address your cannabis addiction.

Some of the topics covered are:

  • understanding what cannabis is
  • cannabis withdrawal
  • the effect cannabis has on your mental and physical health
  • recognising triggers and high risk situations
  • strategies for change
  • managing withdrawals

Guided meditation and relaxation

In this group you will learn breathing and relaxation techniques. 

You will learn how to practice mindfulness and view situations with a different perspective.

Auricular (ear) acupuncture

Ear acupuncture may help your recovery. If you feel this would be good for you then speak with your recovery facilitator. 

Acupuncture is available to all New Hope service users to help with cravings and anxiety.

Family and friends support group

This group offers support to family and friends of those going through addiction and the recovery process. You will learn how establishing boundaries and managing behaviours can help you cope with someone’s addiction.

Indian head massage

This popular, ancient healing system has been practiced in India for thousands of years. Performed while seated, this massage takes around 20 to 30 minutes. 

It works on the upper back, shoulders, neck, head and face to help ease a variety of stress-related conditions and relieve muscular tension.

Growing hope

This therapeutic group takes place at Jealott’s Hill Community Land Share. You will learn to cultivate vegetables, salad leaves and flowers. 

The produce will be given to those who attend the group and other people who use the service.

Managing stress, depression and anxiety

This 4 week course is delivered by a dual diagnosis practitioner. 

It will help you to recognise, take control and overcome difficulties caused by depression, stress and anxiety.

Alcohol treatment requirement (ATR) group

This is an 8 week programme for people who have been given an ATR by the court. 

You will be required to attend 1 to 1 sessions for a set period of time.

Reducing offender behaviour group

This programme is for people who have been given a drug rehabilitation requirement by the court. 

You will be required to attend 1 to 1 sessions for a set period of time.

Drug Diversion Scheme (DDS)

The DDS supports young adults who have been referred after being stopped by the police in possession of drugs. 

The scheme is an alternative to being arrested. It aims to prevent young adults entering the criminal justice system and help them to understand the effects of substance misuse.

  • 1 to 1 sessions with an allocated recovery facilitator
  • breaking free online
  • needle and syringe service
  • opiate substitute therapy clinic
  • blood bourne virus testing
  • access to Naloxone
