Take Pride

Take Pride is an initiative organised and steered through the council, in association with the Keep Britain Tidy campaign.

The aim of Take Pride is to encourage local volunteers and community groups who live or work in Bracknell Forest to help maintain a clean and green environment.

Take Pride provides a great opportunity for volunteers to get involved in making a positive difference to the environment and our community. Volunteering is a great way to share skills, knowledge and leisure time with like minded people to improve the quality of life in our community.

There are a number of dedicated groups and individual volunteers who undertake regular litter picking around their neighbourhood. They include:

  • youth and community groups
  • Guides and Scouts
  • local conservation groups
  • staff working at local companies

They all work hard to assist the council in keeping the borough looking clean and tidy.

Volunteering activities

You can get involved in the following types of activities:

  • litter picking
  • community clean ups (including leaf clearance)
  • community garden projects
  • helping out in an emergency or when there is snow or flooding
  • assisting with recycling initiatives

Equipment is available on loan to you and your teams to assist with the event. This includes litter pickers, high visibility waistcoats, and gloves.

Litter disposal

Bags are provided to collect the litter. Arrangements can be made to collect bags from agreed locations. Contact customer services with the details.

Volunteers are encouraged to separate recyclable materials such as plastic bottles, cans, paper and card, and place them in the clear bag provided and take glass bottles to the nearest bottle banks

Get involved

To get involved, submit the take pride volunteer registration form.

Register as a Take Pride volunteer

You do not always need to register to take part. If an event like a litter pick or water course clearance has been organised, then you can just turn up and take part.

Why volunteer

The main aim of the Take Pride campaign is to give people an opportunity to do something positive for their local community to assist in maintaining a clean environment. Although there are plans in place to deal with things like antisocial behaviour and litter on a borough wide scale, we want people to feel that they can play an active part in helping to shape their community.

By working together, we can make the borough a safer, cleaner and more pleasant place to live.

Who can volunteer

Anyone connected to Bracknell Forest in any way is welcome to take part as an individual, or as part of a larger group. Local companies are also welcome to take part in pre-organised activities or organise their own events. Contact the Take Pride team to discuss your ideas.

Some events will be organised to take place in the evenings and at weekends and many will only last an hour or two. You can take part in as many or as few as you like, for example some community associations run litter picks every other month and you can go just once or to every single one. Alternatively, why not get your company to organise a Take Pride event which everyone can get involved in.

Other volunteering opportunities

If you like the idea of volunteering but want to do something different, there are other ways to get involved in the community.
