Meadow flower seeding
We have reseeded a 0.7 hectare area of grassland with a wildflower mix, aimed at improving biodiversity.
Some of the wildflowers include:
- Birdsfoot Trefoil – a member of the pea family and has yellow flowers that look like birds’ feed
- Field Scabious – bears pin-cushion-like flowers in the palest lilac colour
- Lady's Bedstraw – a low-growing yellow flower that attracts a variety of insects
- Yarrow – contains clusters of white, flat-topped flower heads
- Yellow Rattle - known for suppressing grass growth, which allows more wildflowers to grow
Over time, this new meadow area should help provide a food source for pollinators, such as bees and butterflies.
It should also add a lovely splash of colour when in bloom in the spring and summer.
It is important we preserve and enhance wildflower meadows, which according to Plantlife, have declined by over 97% since the 1930s.

Wildlife
The Parks is home to some very special wildlife, which can be found in its balancing pond, woodland and grassland. The woodland contains buried deadwood, which attracts stag beetles. These are the UK's largest beetle.
There are 2 bat houses, which are provided for our flying furry friends. Green woodpeckers hunt for ants, their food of choice, in the grassland. Great spotted woodpeckers favour woodland habitats.
Our balancing ponds are frequently visited by ducks, herons and a whole range of aquatic life such as dragonflies, frogs and diving beetles.
The Parks boasts one of the best local population of hedgehogs, which many of our residents feed and create homes for close by.
We are improving our grassland to promote wildflowers and provide a food source for pollinators such as bees and butterflies.
