Beginners Word: June 2025

Introduction to the basic functions of Microsoft Word.

The course will include:

  • starting up Word
  • creating, saving and opening documents
  • entering, selecting and deleting text
  •  moving around a document
  • cut, copy and paste functions
  • formatting text with different fonts, sizes and colours
  • text alignment 
  • printing documents

Suitable for beginners who have basic IT skills.

By the end of the course, you will have an understanding of the basic functions of Microsoft Word.

Entry requirements

This course is suitable for learners who have little or extremely limited experience of Microsoft Word.

Material required for the course

Bring a pen and paper for making notes.

Teaching method

Learning will be through

  • observing tutor demonstrations 
  • completing a series of exercises under guidance of the tutor

How is your progress checked

Tutor observation, question and answer, and the completion of exercises.

Assessment

There will be a self-evaluation at the end of the session.

On finishing this course you can progress on to various other computer courses or to the Pearson Essential Digital Skills Qualification.
