Make a difference as a school governor

Are you passionate about education and interested in becoming a school governor? We currently have 2 vacancies:

  • one foundation governor
  • one co-opted governor

About the role

As a school governor, you will play a key role in supporting the school’s leadership and help get the best outcomes for all students. Governors contribute to the school’s strategic direction, monitor its performance, and support its continuous improvement.

Co-opted governors

Co-opted governors are appointed by the governing board. We are looking for someone with the right skills to help enhance the governance and success of the school. The ideal applicant will complement the current governing body’s diverse range of skills and expertise.

Foundation governors

Foundation governors are appointed by the diocese and focus on supporting the christian ethos of the school. As a Church of England school, it is important that foundation governors help uphold and develop the school’s christian values and vision. This role involves making sure the school’s leadership and teaching reflect its christian foundation.

Both types of governors share core responsibilities. Foundation governors have the additional responsibility of making sure the christian ethos is visible in the school’s leadership, management, and teaching.

About us

Our governing board works in close partnership with the headteacher to promote continuous improvement in the school’s performance. Currently, our governing body has 13 members:

  • the headteacher
  • two elected parent governors
  • one local authority governor
  • one staff governor
  • two foundation governors
  • six co-opted governors

We also have a professional clerk. While our governors have their own careers and responsibilities, they dedicate time to supporting the school.

Expectations of the role

As a governor, you will:

  • build strong relationships with staff, fellow governors, and the school community
  • stay updated on pupil progress
  • challenge school leaders to improve outcomes
  • keep an eye on the school’s spending, particularly pupil premium funding, making sure it is used effectively
