Co-opted governor vacancy for Harmans Water Primary School

Make a difference to children’s lives in your area

Would you like to help make a positive contribution to children's education?

Could you use your workplace skills in partnership with our governing body to promote the continuous improvement in the performance of the school?

Then the governing body of Harmans Water Primary School would love to hear from you.

About us

Our governing body is made up of 13 governors:

  • the headteacher
  • 1 local authority governor
  • 2 elected parent governors
  • 1 elected staff governor
  • 8 co-opted governors

We also employ a professional clerk.

All of our governors have their own careers and responsibilities, but they dedicate time to the school when they are able.

Our governors bring a wealth of different experience to the governing body, including financial expertise, strategic planning and practical skills. All of these are highly valued.

The governing body’s overriding responsibility is to work in partnership with the headteacher, to promote continuous improvement in the performance of the school.

The role

We have one vacancy for a co-opted governor.

It is important that our governing body represents the local area.

We are keen to hear from self-motivated and determined people who are interested in becoming a governor. Ideally you will have experience in human resources, finance or an education background.

Co-opted governors are elected by the governing body based on their skills. However, we are also looking for:

  • a willingness to learn
  • the confidence to challenge and actively contribute during discussions
  • an ability to work closely and collaboratively with others

You will need to attend 8 to 10 local governor’s meetings a year.  These are currently held in school on Mondays at 6:30pm.

You will be provided with training. This is delivered by Bracknell Forest Council or through the National Association of Governors. This includes online learning for other sectors and types of work. This training makes school governance one of the best forms of personal and professional development.

How to apply

If you would like to know more about the role of governor, email the clerk to governors at amanda.lowe@harmanswater.co.uk.
