Make a difference as a school governor
The governing board of Ascot Heath Primary School has a vacancy for a co-opted governor.
We are looking for people from the community to join our governing body. No previous or specific governor experience is needed.
We are looking for people who can use their professional or life experiences to help make a positive contribution to our children’s education.
If you have any experience or knowledge in fundraising or finance, we would be particularly keen to hear from you.
About us
We are a diverse group of volunteers made up of parents, education and business professionals. We use our wealth of life experiences, knowledge and skills to develop strategic plans in partnership with the headteacher to promote the continuous improvement of the school.
Our governing body is made up of:
- 2 elected parent governors
- 1 local authority governors
- 1 elected staff governor
- the headteacher
- 4 co-opted governors
- 1 associate governor
The role of a governor
The role of governors is important in raising school standards through our core functions.
You will make sure that:
- the vision, ethos, and strategic direction of the school are clearly defined
- the headteacher performs their responsibilities for the educational performance of the school
- there is sound, proper and effective use of the school’s financial resources
To be a governor you need to:
- attend 2 full governor meetings and one committee meeting each term
- do pre-reading for meetings
- attend an induction and then at least 2 training sessions per year
- visit the school during the working day at least once a year
These responsibilities will need up to 15 hours of your time each term.
