The inclusive offer which all students must receive features quality first teaching and an inclusive learning environment.
It is funded within element one - the core offer for every student.
If additional needs are identified for a specific student then the SENCO becomes involved.
If some personalised needs are identified, the student will need personalised provision.
Personalised provision for some students (SEN support)
Under the Graduated Approach, some students will need personalised provision. This includes:
- an Individual Learning Plan or equivalent
- a short-term, focused, group intervention to meet the student's identified needs
- seeking guidance and advice from the SENCO
This process is funded from element 2 of the setting's resources (notional £6,000).
The intervention will need to be reviewed and de-escalated if progress is made. If the interventions are not effective or further needs are identified, then the student will need highly personalised provision.
Highly personalised provision for a few students
A few students will need highly personalised provision. This includes:
- individual, bespoke provision
- providing short-term, focused, individual interventions if the needs persist despite intervention
- seeking advice and guidance from outside professionals
In these cases, the funding provided from element 2 of the setting's resources (notional £6,000) may not be enough.
This support will need to be reviewed after 2 cycles and de-escalated if progress has been made and short-term needs are met.
If longer term needs are identified then the SENCO may consider applying for an EHC needs assessment.
Specialist provision will need to be in place for very few students.
- The SENCO will need to gather evidence from the Assess, Plan, Do, Review (APDR) process and submit a request for a needs assessment to the SEND team.
- The request will be considered at a SEND panel.
- If an EHPC is agreed then funding will be determined by banding matrix.
