All Age Integrated Carers Strategy 2024 to 2029

Caring for our Carers - the next 5 years

The carers' strategy outlines our vision and priorities for carers of all ages living in the borough. It will help us achieve our key objectives as set out in the Council Plan and Bracknell Forest Health and Care Plan 2022 to 2025.

The strategy gives an overview of what is currently available to support our carers, a high-level assessment of carers needs, and a planned approach to addressing these needs.

Our vision

Our vision is for all carers living in Bracknell Forest to be recognised and valued in their community. We want them to feel empowered in achieving their aspirations and supported in their caring role.

We have set out 5 priorities to help us to achieve this:

1. Recognising and supporting carers in the wider community

We recognise the value of what carers do in our community and want to support them. We will do this by making sure carers can easily get information and advice.

2. Services and support that work for carers

We know carers want to be able to socialise with friends and family. We will make sure there are services and support that work for carers so they have time for recreation and a break from caring.

3. Employment and financial wellbeing

Many carers have jobs outside the home. We will help carers with their employment and financial wellbeing by supporting those who want to stay in work. We will help carers maximise their benefits.

4. Supporting young carers

Young carers often feel alone with no support and don't know where to find help. We will:

  • make sure that young carers have the information they need and know where to go for help
  • help young carers stay in school and make sure their caring does not stop this

5. Young adult carers

When young carers reach 18 years old, our young carers service can no longer support them as they are now an adult. But most 18 to 29-year-olds find adult services do not offer the support they need. We will make sure we are supporting young adult carers.

How we developed the strategy

The final version of the carer’s strategy was developed after consulting with:

  • residents
  • partners
  • primary care network
  • schools

We consulted through an online survey, focus groups and engagement with a range of voluntary and statutory service providers and carers groups. We sought their views on the key issues for carers and priorities for action.
