The Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS) and Energy Company Obligation (ECO) work to provide energy efficiency measures. These measures are for people who are vulnerable to the cold or on a low income.
They are designed to deliver improvements to the least energy efficient homes. Their aim is to tackle fuel poverty and help reduce energy bills.
Under the scheme, residents could be eligible for the replacement of broken heating systems and upgrading of inefficient heating systems. This may include:
- cavity wall insulation (including party walls)
- solid wall insulation (both external and internal)
- loft insulation
- pitched roof insulation
- flat roof insulation
- under floor insulation
- solid floor insulation
- park home insulation
- room-in-roof insulation
The scheme will not include other insulation measures such as draft proofing for doors and windows. This is because the scheme aims to bring significant energy savings in the most cost effective way.
Eligibility
This scheme is for:
- low-income and vulnerable households
- homes with an Energy Performance Certificate rating of D to G
- homes within council tax bands A to D in England and A to E in Scotland and Wales
You may need to pay for an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) if you do not have one.
How to apply
As a participating council, we can refer eligible households to the scheme.
