The next meeting of the council’s Climate Change Advisory Panel (CCAP) will consider ways to mitigate the impacts of the current cost-of-living crisis from an environmental angle.
The panel will receive presentations from the council’s climate change officer and the head of climate change and sustainable living, outlining the council’s approach towards supporting residents through their increased living costs. The areas for consideration will include:
- making efficient use of food to reduce food waste
- supporting residents in making their homes warmer and more energy efficient
- highlighting active travel routes around the borough and encouraging the use of alternatives to petrol and diesel cars
There will also be a presentation from utility provider, Octopus Energy, who will share the support measures they have put in place to help residents with spiralling energy bills.
Cllr Mrs Dorothy Hayes MBE, executive member for environment, said:
“Whilst Bracknell Forest Council continues to tackle the impacts of climate change and find ways to support our residents during hard economic times, it is important to highlight the ways in which our residents can make small behaviour changes themselves.
“Energy, food and fuel are all finite resources. It is vitally important that we highlight ways to reduce our current levels of consumption and adopt environmentally friendly practices to support a better future for us all.”
In addition, the council is sharing regular tips and tricks on social media to encourage residents to make small changes, in order to help reduce their carbon footprint.
