Join The Big Recycling Hunt this week

Bracknell Forest waste and recycling bins

Residents are encouraged to take part in The Big Recycling Hunt this week as part of Recycle Week 2023.

This year’s theme aims to educate and inspire residents to identify and recycle commonly binned items within their homes.

In Bracknell Forest, some of the most common items that are found in general waste bins (green bins) when they could be recycled are:

  • paper and card
  • garden waste
  • films and wraps
  • plastics (such as pots, tubs and trays)
  • textiles
  • glass
  • tins and cans

Residents can find details of items that should be recycled in their blue recycling bins, garden waste, or food waste bins on the council’s bins and recycling pages.

They can then take part in the recycling hunt at home by collecting as many of these items and putting them in the correct bin, helping to boost recycling rates.

Cllr Helen Purnell, Executive Member for Environment and Community Cohesion, said:

“Recycling is a collective effort that begins at home. How well we all recycle has a direct impact on the borough’s carbon footprint.

“We have a very comprehensive waste and recycling service in Bracknell Forest and so there is no excuse for binning things that could be recycled or putting general waste in your blue, brown or food bins.

“This week is a great opportunity to encourage your family to recycle correctly. Taking part in a hunt around your home for things that can be recycled is a great place to start and you may be surprised with how much you find.”
