Residents are invited to a webinar to learn about the role of a school governor and the benefits it brings. The webinar is scheduled for Wednesday 31 January from 6pm to 7pm.

The webinar, run by Bracknell Forest Council in partnership with Governors for Schools, will show residents how they can elevate their careers by becoming school governors in Bracknell Forest.

The hour-long session will include:

  • a comprehensive look into various school governor roles
  • talks from current school governors
  • a question and answer session

No prior experience is needed.

Cllr Roy Bailey, Executive Member for Children, Young People and Learning, said:

“Being a school governor not only improves your career development but also the lives of children across Bracknell Forest.

“As a school governor, you will work alongside the headteacher and school staff to make sure the school is being run efficiently and the needs of all children are met.

“As a school governor for over 30 years, I can say that it’s one of the most valuable voluntary jobs out there and support is available at all times from a very caring team.”

Harriet Bowen, Partnerships Manager for Governors for Schools, said:

“Our introductory webinars are designed to help prospective governors learn more about the personal and professional benefits of the role, the time commitment required, and the kinds of support we’ll provide after you’re placed in a school.

“Remember – you don’t have to be a parent or education specialist to apply. We encourage people from across Bracknell Forest to join us and chat about governance in a supportive and welcoming environment.”
