Students being presented with award by Cllr Mary Temperton and Headteacher of school

Last Friday saw Warfield CE Primary School receive the Eco Rewards major achievement award for the 2022 to 2023 academic year. This prestigious award is a testament to the school's outstanding commitment to reducing carbon emissions, promoting sustainability and encouraging physical activity.

Warfield CE Primary has demonstrated exceptional performance in promoting greener travel to and from school by totalling 1.2 million points, 13,409 green miles and saving 4.2 tonnes of CO2e compared to driving. Their efforts have significantly contributed to the overall success of the Eco Rewards scheme in Bracknell Forest, where participants have collectively logged over half a million green miles and achieved over 142 tonnes of carbon savings.

In light of this success, Eco Rewards is excited to announce the launch of the 'Eco School of the Year' competition for 2024. This new initiative aims to encourage further participation among schools and colleges, with the winners being recognised for their improvement in active travel and contribution to environmental goals.

Cllr Mary Temperton, Leader of the Council and Executive Member for Climate Change and Council Strategy, said:

“I was so delighted to be able to present Warfield CE Primary School with their achievement award.

“Instilling a sense of responsibility towards our environment is important and the school is doing a great job in encouraging walking and cycling to and from school where possible.

“But anyone can use Eco Rewards to track their journeys around the borough. Participants have already shown a 51% behavioural shift, mainly towards walking and cycling. So, if you’re looking to reduce your carbon emissions and travel more sustainably, joining Eco Rewards is the way to go.”

Eco Rewards offers rewards and incentives through schools, businesses, and residents to encourage people to choose greener travel, healthier lifestyle options and reduce local congestion. Cycling, walking and green travel journeys can be reported by scanning QR codes with the Eco Rewards app

Participants can take part in challenges, be entered into prize draws and access discounts and cash-back from well-known online retailers as well as offers from local businesses. Participants can log their routes and achieve goals while helping to save the planet.
