Nepali New Year

Colourful fireworks against a dark sky

The Nepali New Year, also known as Nepal Sambat or Navavarsha, falls on Saturday 13 April this year.

It is one of many Nepali festivities, and usually falls during the second week of April. It is considered by the Nepalese as the first day of Baisakh, the first month of the Bikram Sambat calendar.

Nepali New Year is an official public holiday in Nepal and is celebrated with parades, parties, family gatherings, colourful ornaments and a lot of food. The religious holiday is observed with the hope of having blessings and prosperity in the year ahead.

In Bracknell Forest, our Sandhurst Nepalese Community will be celebrating Nepali New Year 2081 on Saturday, 13 April at Sandhurst Town Council.

There will be guests including the Mayor and Mayoress of Sandhurst Town Council, and the Headteacher and Deputy Headteacher of Sandhurst school.

We’d like to wish a very Happy New Year to those celebrating.
