Horseshoe Lake

Horseshoe Lake covers about 22 acres.

Originally part of an extensive network of working gravel pits that have now been flooded, this site now occupies an attractive setting in the Blackwater Valley and is a popular venue for those who enjoy watersports, birdwatching and walking.

Facilities

Horseshoe Lake has:

  • opportunities for water sports including dinghy sailing, windsurfing, dragon boating, canoeing and raft building
  • attractive countryside walks with lakeside views and opportunities for longer routes for the more adventurous
  • a great place to spot wildlife including a wide variety of winter visitors and breeding birds and invertebrates including several species of grasshoppers and crickets, 12 species of dragonflies and 18 species of butterflies
  • an onsite car park where limited disabled access (such as for wheelchairs) is available

The main access by car into the site is from Mill Lane. There are 2 small car parks, one of which serves the watersports centre. The postcode is GU47 8JW.

Accessibility

Horseshoe Lake has a circular walk with a gravel path. There is a small wooden footbridge to navigate. Seating areas are available, with one near the car park. Leaving the site by other routes than the site car park, will require access via kissing gates.
