Public consultation
Our public consultation on the draft Local Transport Plan (from Monday 25 November to Monday 30 December) has now closed.
We will now review your feedback and are aiming to publish the final plan in the coming months.
Check back for more details.
Draft plan
More than 1,000 people responded to our survey in December 2023 to January 2024. This helped us to understand the priorities of residents and shape the new plan.
Our vision for 2037
To develop a sustainable and resilient transport network that reduces carbon and provides choice and access for all in a safe and healthy environment, making Bracknell Forest a desirable place to live, work and grow.
Work so far
Over the past 2 years we have been developing new policies for our new plan (LTP4).
These include:
- a local cycling and walking infrastructure plan (PDF, 8 MB)
- the adoption of our Bus Service Improvement Plan (PDF, 3.3 MB)
- the development of our Electric Vehicle Strategy (PDF, 2 MB) which includes potential locations for Electric Vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure
Our new plan will shape future transport schemes and development, aligning with the Local Plan which sets out housing growth for 2037.
Cleaner travel
We want to start with a focus on cleaner travel. To help us with this, we want residents to think about how they can reduce their carbon emissions in daily activities.
To support this, we will:
- encourage greater use of our excellent walking and cycling network
- explore a more efficient and smart use of our road network
- improve EV infrastructure by providing more charge points
- explore changes in the way public transport is provided, using technology to allow more demand responsive routes
- work with schools to promote sustainable transport and encourage parents and pupils to use active ways to school
- provide safer routes to school with the adoption of school streets
- work with the private sector to make sure these values are adopted across the borough’s workforce
Building on this, and with a move to greater sustainability included in all of the council's emerging policies, we have created a vision for our future LTP.
How we will deliver the plan
We want our LTP to be easily accessible to residents. Our approach is based on the 3 over-arching objectives of the Council Plan:
- engaged and healthy communities
- thriving and connected economy
- green and sustainable environment
Our approach also reflects our wider climate and carbon ambitions. We will make sure that decarbonisation is embedded in the way we work and deliver services in the future.
What happens next
After the consultation we will consider all the comments in making more changes to the plan. We aim to formally publish the new Local Transport Plan for Bracknell Forest in spring 2025.
