Beginners Excel: June 2026

Introduction to the basic functions of Microsoft Excel for Windows. 

This will include:

  • starting up the program or app
  • saving and opening spreadsheets
  • understanding the layout of a spreadsheet
  • entering, editing and deleting text and data
  • making calculations
  • moving around a spreadsheet
  • formatting including borders, changing fonts, size and use of colour 
  • printing

Entry requirements

Learners must be over the age of 19 years old

This course is suitable for learners who have little or extremely limited experience of Microsoft Excel.

There are no pre-requisites.

There is no need to have access to technology outside of the classroom.

Material required for the course

All materials will be supplied.

Bring a pen and paper for making notes.

Teaching method

Learning will be through formal instruction and practical hands-on activities.

Use of online learning if helpful to re-cap lesson activities.

How is your progress checked

Printed examples of spreadsheets that you have created using Excel. 

Assessment

There will be a self-evaluation at the end of the session.
