This session explores how learning skills can help us adapt to changing work demands. It includes a talk from an industry professional to connect classroom learning with real workplace experience, and highlights the importance of effective communication in a professional environment.

Includes a talk from an industry professional to connect classroom learning with real workplace experience, and highlights the importance of effective communication in a professional environment.

You will:

  • be able to identify ways of learning that can help you keep up with changing workplace demands
  • be able to describe at least one key message from the industry professional’s talk about the world of work
  • be able to explain why good communication is important in a work environment
  • be able to identify examples of effective communication skills used in the workplace
  • be able to reflect on how you can apply these skills to your own learning and future employment

Entry requirements

Learners must be over the age of 19 years before 31 August prior to the start of the academic year.

Teaching method

You will learn by:

  • group discussion about learning, work, and communication
  • tutor-led explanation and guided activities
  • a talk from an industry professional with opportunities for questions
  • paired or small-group tasks to practise communication skills
  • individual reflection on how the session content applies to personal learning and future work

How is your progress checked

Your progress is checked by:

  • your participation in discussion, activities, and questions during the session
  • your contributions to paired or small-group communication tasks
  • your responses to questioning and feedback throughout the session
  • your reflection on what you have learned and how you can use it in the future

Assessment

You will be assessed by:

  • taking part in learning activities and group discussion
  • demonstrating understanding through questions, answers, and communication tasks
  • sharing a short reflection on key learning from the session

Next steps

You will be able to attend other learning programmes and/or speak to a careers adviser for your next steps.
