On this course you will learn what an illumination is as part of calligraphy.
You will have an opportunity to complete an illuminated capital letter using illumination techniques based on ancient manuscripts.
This course provides an introduction to what illumination is as part of calligraphy.
You will learn how to create a decorative capital letter that can be used either on its own or to embellish a piece of writing as done in ancient manuscripts.
By the end of the course learners will be able to:
- identify an illumination as part of a manuscript
- demonstrate at least 2 design methods on an illuminated capital letter
- guild a capital letter by using gold gouache paint

This course is suitable for complete beginners or those looking to practise or improve their skills.

How is your progress checked
An initial assessment will be carried out for each leaner to assess their current knowledge and starting point.
An individual learning plan will then be discussed with each learner to establish what they would like to achieve on the course.
Individual assistance and instruction will be provided to each learner to support their progress.
