CVs and Cover Letters
How to write an effective CV and covering letter to support your job applications and job searching.
On this course you will learn what the purpose is of a CV.
You will:
- explain the purpose of a CV and Covering Letter
- identify the types of information to include (and not include) in a CV and Covering Letter
- explain the importance of references in a CV
- be able to produce a CV and Covering Letter for a specific job application
Material required for the course
You will need to bring:
- your current CV either emailed to yourself or on a USB stick. You will be able to build on this in the session
If you do not have a CV, that is okay too, this will be done in class.
Teaching method
You will learn by:
- an interactive presentation done by a National Careers Service Adviser providing up to date do’s and don’ts for CV’s and covering letters
- practical CV and covering letters using Word on computers
- individual guidance by the Skills for Work Tutor
How is your progress checked
Your progress is checked by:
Completed CV and covering letter meeting the criteria for both. This will be checked by your tutor. You will also complete worksheets
Assessment
You will be assessed by your tutor
Your assessment will be the correct CV and covering letter and the completion of a workbook
There is no exam for this course.
