English conversation class: Spring 2026

The online English conversation class offers learners the opportunity to practice listening and speaking in a friendly and informal small group setting. 

Our evening café allows learners to participate alongside their day-time commitments. 

The aim is for students to learn useful phrases and vocabulary to build their confidence and communication skills for everyday life in the UK.

 

 

 

Course materials are based on the Adult ESOL Core Curriculum programme and learners will develop their listening and speaking skills within the context of everyday situations including:

  • Making conversation:  Introducing and describing myself and others (family and friends)
  • Talking about hobbies, interests, skills, personal attributes and daily routines
  • Talking about my home, local places, weather and seasons.
  • English for transport, shopping, holidays and social events
  • My health and wellbeing, learning for life, jobs and the workplace.
  • Asking and Answering questions in English
  • Exploring the use of informal and formal language
  • Verbal and non-verbal communication skills
  • Expressing preference, opinion and using persuasive language
  • Making and responding to invitations and offers
  • Pronunciation

Entry requirements

Learners must have a basic level of English. 

To ensure this course is right for you visit our English Language Cafe drop-in sessions Mondays or Thursdays 10 am ( term-time only)  at Bracknell Open Learning Centre.
