Getting the Job: CVs and Interviews
Build confidence for the job market with this practical session. Learn to create strong CV\'s and cover letters, apply for local jobs, and practise interviews through role play and mock sessions with feedback to help you improve and succeed.
This session includes a workshop delivered by the National Careers Service, focusing on how to create effective CV\\\'s and covering letters. Learners will then select and apply for a job within a current local industry, developing their job search and application skills. They will prepare for interviews through role play activities and participate in a simulated interview process based on their chosen job application. The session also provides opportunities to take part in mock interviews, allowing learners to receive constructive feedback to support their ongoing development and confidence in interview situations.
By the end of this session, you will be able to:
- produce a clear and effective CV and covering letter tailored to a specific job role
- identify suitable job opportunities within a current local industry and complete a job application
- demonstrate an understanding of the interview process and appropriate preparation techniques
- participate confidently in a role-play interview based on a job application
- take part in mock interviews and obtain feedback to improve your performance
- reflect on your strengths and areas for development in relation to employability skills
Entry requirements
Learners must be over the age of 19 years before 31 August prior to the start of the academic year.

Material required for the course
You will need to bring:
- your most up to date CV that you have. This is not essential but can be used to update and improve.
Teaching method
Independent learning Learners create their own CVs, covering letters, and job applications
Practical application Searching for and applying to real or realistic job opportunities within a local industry
Role play activities Simulated interview scenarios to practise responses and build confidence
Mock interviews Structured practice interviews to replicate real recruitment processes
Peer and tutor feedback Constructive feedback to support reflection and improvement
Group discussion Sharing experiences and discussing employability skills and expectations Reflective practice – Learners review their performance and identify areas for development
How is your progress checked
Your progress is checked by:
Observation Tutor observation of learner participation in role play activities and mock interviews
Questioning Informal and targeted questioning to assess understanding of employability skills and interview techniques
Mock interview performance Evaluation of learners’ communication, presentation, and responses during interview practice
Feedback sessions Ongoing verbal and written feedback from tutors and peers to support improvement
Learner self-assessment Reflection activities where learners identify their strengths and areas for development
Assessment
You will be assessed by:
