Learning at work week: STEM (science, technology, engineering & maths)
Come and join us at the OLC for a practical session exploring Family Learning STEM (science, technology, engineering & maths) themes. Build a boat out of foil, dabble in fizzy colours or experiment with playdough constructions. Different child-friendly activity ideas to try out and take away. The big question is, whose boat will hold the most pennies before sinking?
A carousel of different science-based activities that are fun for all ages:
- fizzy colours – what happens when you mix Bicarbonate of Soda, vinegar and food colouring
- play dough constructions – who can build the tallest/biggest model using just play dough and straws
- button challenge – how tall you can make your button tower, and how much taller can you make it if you use play dough to help
- paper helicopters – design your ‘chopper’ and explore what makes them spin - can you change the speed to make them go slower or quicker
- pendulum patterns – make your own pendulum and investigate how swing speed is changed when height, length and weight conditions are altered
