Pearson Essential Digital Skills qualification Level 1: April 2025

Essential Digital Skills qualifications (EDSQ) teach people to safely engage with and contribute to the digital world.

These qualifications suit those who want to improve their digital skills for daily life.

EDSQs are mapped to national standards for basic digital literacy. Those with no or low digital skills are entitled to take the qualification free of charge. The EDSQ framework defines the digital skills adults need to safely benefit from, take part in and contribute to the digital world.

The qualifications cover 5 key topics: 

  • using devices and handling information
  • creating and editing using apps
  • communicating electronically
  • e-commerce transactions online 
  • being safe and responsible online

How to enrol

To enrol on this course you need to attend our job club.

Entry requirements

Learners need to have some basic digital skills. 

Completion of Pearson Entry Level Essential Digital Skills  is required,visit our Job Club for more information on how to enrol onto this course.

 

Material required for the course

You will need access to the internet and suitable device(s) outside of the classroom.

Teaching method

Learning will take place in a classroom situation.

Independent learning (outside the classroom) will take place in the form of set activities or practice of things learned in the classroom. 

You will generally work individually.

How is your progress checked

You will be supported by a tutor in a classroom and will need to do independent work for homework. The qualification will be assessed by a combination of different tasks.

Assessment

This course is assessed through completion of  Pearson Level 1 Essential Digital Skills examination and a self-evaluation at the end of the course.

Next steps

On successfully finishing the course, you will get a Pearson Level 1 qualification in Essential Digital Skills.

Learners can progress to:

  • advanced IT Skills for Work
  • other IT courses including beginners and next steps Excel and Word and Beginners PowerPoint

Learners may also want to do other Pearson accredited courses.
