Armed Forces Week will take place from Monday 24 June to Sunday 30 June, and is a way for us to show our support to the armed forces community.
The week ends with Armed Forces Day on Saturday 29 June.
We will be flying the armed forces flag and lighting up Time Square in red, white and blue in recognition and celebration of Armed Forces Week.
The council is proud to have recently been awarded silver status in the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme. This achievement recognises our commitment and support to our armed forces communities.
Armed Forces flag raising ceremony
Sandhurst Town Council is holding an Armed Forces Day flag raising ceremony on Monday 24 June at 2pm outside the council offices in Sandhurst Memorial Park.
All are welcome to join the ceremony and celebrate the great service the military provides for us.
Civilian Military Partnership
Bracknell Forest Council is part of the Civilian Military Partnership. This is a voluntary partnership between the council and its partners. It includes public health, the department of work and pensions, voluntary groups, support charities, the NHS, and the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.
It follows the principles set out in the Community Covenant to make sure:
- members of the armed forces community experience no disadvantage as a result of their service in the armed forces
- appropriate actions are taken to support the smooth transition from military to civilian life
- the best use of resources by working with partners to deliver the greatest possible outcomes for members of the armed forces community
The Community Covenant is part of the Armed Forces Covenant. It is a pledge that organisations can make to demonstrate their support for the armed forces community.
It is a nationwide agreement between the armed forces community, the nation and the government. It aims to:
- raise public understanding and awareness of issues affecting the armed forces community
- support the integration of service leavers in the borough
- make sure that those who serve or have served in the armed forces, and their families, are treated fairly
Susan Halliwell, Chief Executive of Bracknell Forest Council, said:
“I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you on behalf of the borough of Bracknell Forest for everything the armed forces do and have done, particularly in this past year. I would also like to thank all those who show their support to honour our armed forces.”
