The proposed Youth Justice Plan for 2024 to 2027 will be submitted to council on Wednesday 27 November. This follows the council's cabinet decision to approve the recommendation at its meeting on 12 November 2024.

The Bracknell Forest Youth Justice Plan details the provision of youth justice services in the area. It sets out how youth justice services will prevent offending behaviour by Bracknell Forest children and reduce re-offending.

The youth justice plan is a crucial document that reflects our commitment to:

  • address youth crime
  • support young people at risk of offending

It makes sure the youth justice services meet national standards and priorities. It also provides a framework for the council to work with partners to deliver effective interventions.

The new plan details how the council will continue to provide support to young people within the borough.

The foundation of the Youth Justice Plan is ‘child first’.

This highlights that we are committed to understanding the specific needs of children and young people within the justice system. This means prioritising rehabilitation, support and opportunities for reintegration over punishment.

Cllr Helen Purnell, cabinet member for the environment, community and housing, said:

“Bracknell Forest is one of the smaller youth justice services nationally. However, as its rating of ‘good’ following an inspection by His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Probation earlier this year shows, it provides an invaluable service to children within the local youth justice system.

“The plan sets out the provision for youth justice services locally and reflects on regional and national themes in youth offending behaviour. This information allows us to put measures in place locally to prevent this behaviour and the risk of re-offending and helps us identify opportunities to intervene early.”
