Each year, Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) takes place on 27 January. It is a day of reflection, remembrance and education.
This year marks the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau. It will be a poignant occasion, highlighting the need to remember the past and to build a future of understanding and unity.
Holocaust Memorial Day encourages us to remember the 6 million Jews killed in the Holocaust under Nazi persecution. It also honours the millions killed in the Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia, and Darfur genocides.
On Monday 27 January, Time Square will be lit in purple, the official colour of HMD.
